Happy New Year

Wishing everyone a happy new year. Champagne bubbles and dancing till the sun comes up...falling asleep in your fake eyelashes and the dress you wore on the night before.

doctor zhivago

In his Paris-Moscou collection, which gave a nod to the opulence of Russia, Kaiser Karl sent his girls down the runway clad in gilded head dresses and fur mufflers. But what caught my eye most were the golden tights that surfaced time and time again with mini dresses and knee length skirts alike. Since I spend most of my days prancing around in skirts or mini dresses hosiery is an integral part of my wardrobe, especially in the months when the San Francisco weather gets especially nippy. I've been teetering on the border of a pair of sparkly tights from american apparel for some time now and I must admit that the collection's just pushed me over the edge. Let's face it, if it's okay by Karl...it's okay by me.

borrowed from the boys

From blazers and boyfriend jeans to fedoras and oxford booties menswear pieces have established themselves as a favorite. Just ask it girl Ashley Olsen who donned a Calvin Klein Collection tux to this years CFDA awards. Or check out the runways of Alexander Wang who included double breasted oversized jackets in both his Fall and Spring collections. As a fan of androgyny I've long been pairing oversized cardigans with my skinny jeans on lazy Sundays and lately I've discovered that the trend looks twice as good when paired with luxe elements or fabrics. Throw on an blazer over a lace mini dress with statement jewelry for a night out or pair a sequined jacket with distressed boyfriend shorts, opaque tights and sky high ankle boots. Whatever your choice the next time you find yourself at a loss for an outfit just peruse your beaus closet for a pair of weathered Levi's and you'll be looking effortlessly chic in no time.

tres tres chic

why is it that i find black and white photography so much more interesting than color? i love the composition of the images and the second photo makes me think of helmut newton's "le smoking" photo.

can't repeat the past?...why of course you can!

finding an amazing picture on the sartorialist gives me this weird tingly feeling. i love how scott captured the essence of the moment in this photo, it makes me wonder what these two fabulous gentlemen are discussing.  plus the satin detailing on the lapels, the bow tie and cigarette posed effortlessly in hand...perfection. this picture has such an old style feel to it, like a fitzgerald character come to life. love it.

the room is on fire and she's fixing her hair

i had always hoped that hedi slimane would do a women's collection but with him being off the fashion radar since leaving dior homme i've had to keep my heart content with his photography. the simplicity of the black and white images makes them seem timeless and of course one could never go wrong featuring the ever flawless kate.

guccisima

i've totally been a fan of frida giannini for gucci since i watched her forties dresses prance down the runway in her debut spring 2006 collection. following her bohemian rock chick collection of fall '08 came the bright palate of skinny suits topped with straw fedoras, the mini caftans and the flowing gowns in shades of turquoise and purple of spring '09. oh and need i say that i absolutely die over the cropped turquoise leather jacket...

only in my dreams

yesterday i had a near religious experience...at torso, probably the most exquisite vintage store in san francisco. the selection of gowns, furs and jewelry pretty much blew my mind. i was like a little kid in a candy store, absolutely in awe of all the selection. my two most coveted items however were a late 1940's gold sequined jacket that wouldn't stop sparkling as i stared at my reflection in the mirror and a black, hand beaded, 1920's vest which looked absolutely killer, would go perfect with everything in my closet and has been haunting my dreams. since it's price tag was slightly more than i was willing to throw down i'm left on a search for an alternative...what's a girl to do?

the row

So I know that this video of The Row collection isn't new, however I just can't help but love it. The styling was done by Vanessa Traina and in all of its simplicity I find it incredibly chic. It only further proves the importance of basic staples in a girls wardrobe. Not to mention the song choice is absolutely perfect...

Champagne and Fur Stoles

Life's been a little chaotic lately and with the lack of time I've had to sleep updating the blog has been the last thing on my mind. With that said I recently received a little gift in the mail...Edward Steichen's book In High Fashion. Having never heard of the photographer before I immediately fell in love with his images. The book focuses mainly on the years between 1923-1937 with low back gowns, dropped waistes and finger waved hair evoking the glamour and glitz of the flapper years and conjuring images of Fitzgerald's Daisy Buchanan.

Tutus at Balmain

It's only natural that the opening of Paris fashion week would be led by Christophe Decarnin for Balmain. Amidst the rocker chic blinged out drummer boy jackets and stone washed jeans were the the tutu dresses. Embellished with touches of diamante and paired with studded stilettos in a color palate of black and white they resembled an illegitimate love child of a rocker and a ballerina.

sophomore nyc

As I was looking for a little fashion inspiration from Jen Brill, girlfriend of the ever famous photographer Terry Richardson and stylish girl about town, I ran across Sophomore NYC. The collection of strong basics is inspired by the edgy simplicity of Downtown New York. My personal favorites are the zipper skirt and dress, I'm feeling an obsession with zippers coming along. And to make it even better Jen Brill and Donald Cumming (lead singer of the Virgins) are the models for the Fall Look Book.

hello lover

Alexander Wang's foray into accessories is a recent but highly necessary development. Case in point...this royal blue oversized clutch that I discovered while perusing Barney's the other day. It's kind of perfect...simple with just a touch of rock and roll edge via zipper detailing. And the electric blue color really makes it pop. Not to mention the exquisite buttery leather....pretty sure this one is going on my birthday list

Alison Mosshart

I'm completely enamored by the Kills. Not only does Alison Mosshart have an intoxicating voice she also has pretty killer personal style. Even if it is a little dirty and rock'n'roll she pulls off skinny jeans, leather jackets and weathered boots perfectly.

"Your clothes are all made by Balmain..."

I fell in love with the Balmain Fall 2008 collection the minute I laid eyes on it. It flawlessly exudes effortless rock n roll glamour. I want to wear every piece as I dance all night until the wee hours drinking Moet. Plus the black strapless gown worn by Catherine McNeil completely appeals to my obsession with the snake motif... thank you Christophe Decarnin.
